surfing

Surfing is one of the Best water sports in the world according to O'Brien 35 million surf and 162 different countries.In 2002 there were only 10 million people surfing   over The last 18 Teen years 25 Million have started surfing. The types surfboards are Fi-glass soft top  and long board. You start of on a soft top for about ⅔ years and then you go on to a fi-glass board and then if want a long board you can stay on fi-glass  if you want.

Surfing is one of the oldest extreme sports in the world it started in Hawaii. When the  waves rolled in basically everyone children parents grandparents. Back in the day the boards were made out of wood there were no fiberglass or soft top boards. In 1778 James cook arrived in Hawaii for the first time he was shocked he became the first European to see surfing.In his journal he wrote how shocked and amazed he was to watch people riding through water on wooden boards.It was from his journal that the Europeans found out about the sport.showing of all his surfing skills. Others found out about  surfing during world war 2. Many soldiers stationed in Hawaii returned home home with surfboards by the 1960s surfing was turning into one of the worlds coolest sports.surfers became celebrities they appeared on magazine covers and in movies then surfers sprang up all over the world. During the first weekend of January 2008 a huge storm pounded the California coast huge gusts of wind knocked down trees.Rain flooded roads and everyone stayed away from the ocean except for big wave surfers like mike parsons,

brad gerlach,  grant baker, and Greg long  they sore the chance to catch some big waves  they hopped into a speedboat and raced across the sea. And stopped in  Cortes bay 100 miles of shore. Then they went surfing in the huge waves.           

What I think of surfing

I love surfing I surf on fi-glass. I started surfing when i was 2 I surfed on the front of my dad’s board until I was 5 then I did surf lessons with stoked  and I still do then . I still do then because it bossed’s my confides in surfing and learn new things every week and because I enjoy doing then with my friends. My family loves surfing but you are probably wondering how my mum’s brother saw a person at the beach surfing it looked cool  he got and gave it a go he loved it for Christmas my brother and cousins got surfing vouchers for Christmas I was a bit little my dad gave it go as well the next I got a surf voucher we all went surfing I loved it. When I was seven I got my first board it was soft top lime green and at the same time my brother got his first fi-glass board.When I was 9 I got a fi-glass board for my birthday the first few times I went surfing with it felt a little strange because I had never used a fi-glass board before.Once i got used to it it was fine. I love surfing because I love the feel of the water on my skin. And someday I would like to be like Bethany Hamilton and just maybe surf the Hawaiian island regions.

kindness is the way to go

PBL - Term 1

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about kindness and the big question was: How can we build community through our actions?

First, we explored some collaborative activities and discussed how we could include kindness and build a sense of community through our actions at camp. Next, we were organised into groups where we had to unpack the above question. In our groups we considered how we could spread community and kindness through our entire school community. We decided that we would offer something that was free and would make others happy.

We created an action plan and wanted to do a  Market day but then we realized it was a little bit to much then we wanted to do sports games for kakano then we  settled on doing a treasure hunt for kakano so we started getting it ready. We decided we wanted to make a goodie bag for when they had finished  we decided but in some bubbles a lollipop and an Easter egg we started making clues and posters by the time that was done we were ready to go.

Reflection:

For our final product our group we decided to do a treasure hunt for kakano we hoped they would enjoy it.Finally the day arrived  we had our goodie bags ready and our clues ready.The kids loved it I loved it because I loved working with new faces and seeing the smiles on the kids faces  and because they enjoyed it i enjoyed. When we were done we were super proud of our self’s for doing it.

I contributed by getting the  things for the goodie bags such as bubbles lollipop Easter eggs and sticker’s.

I think the PBL might impact on others by doing kind because it’s right and because it’s free and fun to use.

What I learned about working with others was it can be frustrating at times  but i enjoyed working with people I don’t normally work with.
